How Does the Honda Pilot AWD System Work?

The Honda i-VTM4™ AWD system found in the 2024 Honda Pilot features a series of sensors to determine when the system needs to be activated. It essentially senses which has the most traction as you’re driving on the Westfield roads and provides power to that wheel to maximize performance and stability when you’re behind the wheel. There are several driving modes your Honda Pilot can switch to, but here are some popular driving modes and what the i-VTM4™ AWD system does in each mode:

• Normal: Power is distributed to the wheel that has the most traction.
• Snow: Increased power is sent to the rear wheels for better stability.
• Mud: Power has a bias to send to the rear wheels, but there is a 50/50 power distribution between the front and rear wheels.
• Sand: Similar to Mud mode, power has a rear wheel bias, but there is a 50/50 power distribution.
